Manufacturing Consent

Where will Nobel laureate Obama launch next war? Yemen or Iran?
Which cradle of civilization will he attack first? Iran has been a target for a long time but recently there is a lot of buzz in the media about Yemen and Al Qaeda. It seems like manufactured consent to me.
Yemen is considered a cradle of civilization? Never knew.
Anyways, in this situation, which I consider unlikely to begin with, I’m going with Iran. First, they pose more of a threat, and second the American people are more likely to approve of a war against Iran since they are more aware about how horrible that regime is, and how much it conflicts with many of their core values. Iran might be one of the cradles of civilization; however, while they did progress, with the Islamic Revolution in 1979 they certainly fell back centuries.
I hope that Iran does change, and that the regime that’s figurehead is Achmadinejad will fall and the Iranians get someone that actually cares about them to run their country.

Manufacturing Consent – Noam Chomsky and the Media [VHS] $7.79 Peter Wintonick and Mark Achbar made this penetrating documentary about the career and views of linguist and media critic Noam Chomsky. While the man is the subject of the movie, the filmmakers wisely and carefully choose not to make Chomsky more important than his insights into the way print and electronic journalism tacitly and often willingly further the agendas of the powerful. We learn a lot … |

Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media $11.99 An absolutely brilliant analysis of the ways in which individuals and organizations of the media are influenced to shape the social agendas of knowledge and, therefore, belief. Contrary to the popular conception of members of the press as hard-bitten realists doggedly pursuing unpopular truths, Herman and Chomsky prove conclusively that the free-market economics model of media leads inevitab… |

Media Control, Second Edition: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda (Open Media Series) $5.31 Noam Chomskyâs backpocket classic on wartime propaganda and opinion control begins by asserting two models of democracyâone in which the public actively participates, and one in which the public is manipulated and controlled. According to Chomsky, “propaganda is to democracy as the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state,” and the mass media is the primary vehicle for delivering propaganda i… |
